OH MY GOD IT?S FREEZING!!! We are not joking - just over the water in Buenos Aires it has snowed for the first time since 1918!!!!! BRRRR!
We are abit bored to tell you the truth. We are sure that Uruguay is a lovely place in Summer, but in Winter it is slightly less desirable. We got the bus from Colonia yesterday and arrived in Montevideo in the rain - rubbish. We then trogged about 2 miles to find a hostel recommended by Lonely Planet - we are staying there, and it is like a student dorm, except about 10 degrees below freezing! We have to share a bathroom and the bed sheets are covered in stains - we have never been more thankful for our silk liners! We were roused last night by a bunch of absolutely plastered British students shouting there heads off for about an hour - we hate Lonely Planet. We were also soo hungry last night that even Sophie was seduced by Mcdonalds! The shame! Not a good start to Montevideo really!
Today, with nothing much to do, we ventured to the central post office and have successfully (we hope!) managed to send a rucksack full of clothes etc. home. In theory it should be arriving at Waterford Place in about 10 to 15 days, so keep an eye out mum w! It was about 100 quid cheaper than the guys in BA quoted! Crazy!
Tonight we plan to get an early night, cos we have to get up at about 4am to catch the 6am bus back to Colonia, to catch the 9.30am ferry to Buenos Aires! We are gonna stay in snow ridden BA for a night, then get the night bus up to Iguazu and god help us, we hope to a hotter climate! We are sick of bloody winter! grr.
To summerise; the most exciting things about Montevideo were -
a) a nice waiter b) wooing buses c) wrapping a rucksack in the post office lobby c) seeing how long you can stand without your coat on in the hostel room before you catch hypothermia and e) daring each other to get under the bed sheets of diesease
CAN?T WAIT FOR SOME SUN!!!!
