Gone walkabout
G-day Mate!
Since leaving Sydney, we hired a car to go camping down in Jervis Bay and Kangaroo Valley for a few days. Jervis Bay had gorgeous beaches - turquoise blue sea and white sand but the camping facilities were pretty limited - no hot water nor electricity! We went dolphin watching - they swam v close to our boat so we got a great view of the bottlenose dolphins. There were loads of brown roos around the campsite but funnily there were none in Kangaroo Valley. There, we camped for 1 night surrounded by millions of flies, so we literally swatted non-stop.
We hopped onto a bus down to Euroa about 10 hours away from Sydney. We stayed with Andys Uncle Bill and Aunty Audrey for a few days. They own a pair of twin sheep, both desperately in need of a shear. Bill and Andy chased after them, falling over themselves, so they could be moved to a farm for a month's "vacation"!!
After that, we stayed with Andys cousin Steven and his family. They built their house out of mud bricks which they also made themselves. Steven loves fishing so we went fishing in Lake Eildon, a man made lake for the day and brought back loads of fish for supper.
Melbourne was our next stop, we stayed with Andys cousin Pauline, Lawrence and their dog Sheba for over a week. It was the start of the Australian Open so we got cheap tickets to watch the 2nd round matches!
We went wine tasting in the Yarra Valley with Anita who we met in China, and drank loads of different wines free of charge. Did the usual, swilling, sniffing and gargling and pretended we knew what we were doing, Andy chimed in with pretentiouse sayings like "Great nose"! "Yes wonderful full body" (and that was just the barmaid). Jilly Goolden would have been proud.
The soaring temperatures eventually reached 43oC on Sunday so we all retreated round a friend's to cool down in their pool and stayed in the water for most of the day!
Off on the move again from tomorrow, to Adelaide with a station wagon which is basically an estate car with fold down seats to sleep in Mmmmmm,
Andy and Rachelx
