Gone walkabout
Hi All,
Hope all is going well. We are currently in Alice Springs having completed our 3 day tour of the "Rock" the Olgas and Kings Canyon. All very good and to tell the truth Uluru was probably the least impressive of the three but it is a really big rock. After doing quite a bit of travelling on our own in Australia it was good to join a group of younguns for this debauched tour through the red centre. To celebrate with our new friends I promptly had a load of beers and received a hangover to end all hangovers, so after 3 hours intermittent sleep the 8k walk through the Olgas on day 2 primarily consisted of me concentrating on not throwing up. We saw loads of sunsets and sunrises and very little sleep. We stayed in swags on the bush floor with the stars (well rain clouds really) twinkling (drizzling really) above our heads.
Having been walking around in bare feet and flip-flops like tarzan for nearly 5 months my feet didn't like my walking shoes and gave me loads of blisters, this was before we left the carpark on our day 1 walk around Ayers rock. I hobbled on round with only a little whingin before breaking a toe playing hacky-sack and kicking some welsh miners hobnail boots with my bare feet. The walk up through Kings canyon was nasty but half way round we were rewarded with a swim in the Garden of Eden. Aparently we will be forever young. Which is nice, but I will say being immortal is not all its cracked up to be, for a start it did not help with Rachels 24 hour hangover she received after joining in the drinking games with the boys on our "made it back from the trip and thankfully i was not eaten by a snake / spider / crock celebratory drink".
Have finally chosen a Didgeridoo from a shop here in Alice so looking forward to annoying the neighbours dogs when we get back to England, if it doesn't drive them out of the street once and for all I should be able to convert it into a poison blow pipe without too much trouble.
Looking forward to heading to Cairns now where I was faithfully informed by a guy at the travel agents that they used to have a problem with crocodiles up there before the massive mosquitoes ate them all.
Keep well,
Until next time,
Andy and Rachel
