Today we visited the World of Wearable Art and Collectable Cars Museum in Nelson. The museum holds examples of clothing from the Wearable Arts shows; the idea behind the clothing is to create a piece of art that can be worn. There are many fantastic outfits on show; we particularly like the Dragon Fish costume with it's big wings and long tail that did indeed look like a cross between a dragon and a fish.
There are various categories for the show, including one where clothes are designed to show up under ultra-violet light. We also enjoyed the collectable cars part of the museum where plenty of horsepower was on display; Andrea especially liked the big-finned Cadillac Coup-de-Ville.
After several enjoyable hours in the museum, we hit the road again, heading towards Franz Joseph glacier. It was too far to drive all the way to the glacier that day, especially as Andy missed the turning for State Highway 6 and we went about half-an-hour in the wrong direction! On the west coast we stopped see the intriguing Pancake Rocks. They get their name as they look like stacks of thin pancakes stacked up on top of each other (apparently!).
We made it as far south as Greymouth, where we picked up a take-away curry and parked up for the night in a picnic spot just out of town; our first off-piste overnight stay.
