Hi Alexandra. In case you don't know about it today's must see is the Scoppio del Carro or the explosion of the cart, only happens at Easter and a 500 year tradition, the procession ends and fireworks start outside the Duomo at 11am. Highlights for us so far have been the Uffizi gallery (Michelangelos David), the costume/ fashion display at the Pitti Palace near the Ponte Vecchio, the day trip tour we did to the Cinque Terre coastal fishing villages. Also many small things like the clock inside the Duomo is one of the oldest clicks in Europe, shows all 24 hours and runs backwards starting at the bottom. So much to see here. Hard to believe we go to the supermarket and carry our shopping bags home over the Ponte Vecchio centuries old bridge built 1350 or so I think. We are leaving for Paris and Northern France tomorrow, enjoy your stay in Italy!
Alexandra
Hello Millars! I found your blog on offexploring.com (I have one too - www.offexploring.com/in-transit). I am a recent university grad from Windsor, Ontario travelling the world for three months and I too am in Florence at the moment :) I'm here until Tuesday and wondered if you maybe wanted to meet up or if not if you had any recommendations for things to see and do. Have you come across any good restaurants that aren't too expensive? I was curious too what your plans are for Easter. I'm not sure what's open this Sunday and Monday and am wondering what I should do. If you're not up to too much contact that's perfectly fine. I know you're here as a family. I just wondered if you had any advice for a young solo traveller :)

That's the way Alison, be brave. (easy for me to say with at least 6 years before anyone leaves the nest). Nice to hear from you.

Looks like you are having a wonderful time, and getting some shopping in! Enjoy every minute...can't wait to hear all about it when you get home. Have been very shakey with Hamish leaving home but he is having a wonderful time in Vancouver so far and that is what it is all about...
