Today was my first proper day in placement. In for 8am, I was back in bed at 8.10! My doctors car was stolen over the weekend and he wasn't coming in... again! However, I was called back in at 9am to follow a different doctor, and was chucked straight into a delivery room with 7 student nurses and 2 midwives, all watching this poor girl giving birth! We all went to Maracas today which is a fishing village and beach on the North Coast, about 10 miles east of Blanchisseuse. After the hell hole we had to pass through to get to Blanchisseuse last time we decided to get Taylor, our reliable taxi driver to take us. So we squeezed 6 into his Datsun. Not an exciting week this week, just lots of liming, and Andy started his placement. We went to the pics on Tuesday to see X-men 3, and most of the rest of our spare time was spent learning to play poker and other card games! We're getting better, only betting with Carib bottle tops (we've got enough!). We also roped in Peter, a student from Botswana, and two of the German girls, Steffi and Saskia. Not a lot to report today, was in theatre today and saw a little buy with horrific burns. Was pretty terrible. I've not seen a burns victim before and don't really want to see another. He had 40% burns which included all his left leg and arm and side of his chest. Thankfully he'll be ok but black skin scars pretty badly and I think that'll be a future nightmare for him.
