Operation Long White Cloud
The next day we headed back to Cuzco for a free day and then we moved on to Puno, the gateway to Lake Titticaca. On the way we passed through Juliaca, unofficially Peru's dirtiest town - hideous place, should have taken a photo. Early the next morning we took tuk tuks to the boat where we had a days cruise on the Lake. We visited a community that live on 'floating islands' made enitrely out of reeds - absolutely crazy environment to live in and about as far removed from our own realities as possible. Note the health issues of emptying your waste directly into the water you use to drink and farm trout. We then moored at isla taquile, took another excrutiating hike up a hill (nearly 4000 above sea level) and had a tasty lunch of trout. Then it was back to Puno for drinks and dinner.
Having waved goodbye to Peru, we headed off to La Paz the next day and after an uneventful border crossing into Bolivia, arrived in La Paz in the late afternoon. That night we went to a fake english pub and sampled the house special: Deep Fried Mars bar. Too much i thought, think andrew agreed. We explored la Paz the next day and visited the Witches Market, which was full of unusual things, the weirdest being Lama Foetus' - see picture. Seemingly they are used medicinally and also 'to harm people' - not sure what to make of that! We also visited the Coca Museum and learned how to make cocaine - it will my party piece at chez dooney this christmas. La Paz is a hectic, noisy city but has lots of energy and myself and Andrew liked it alot. The views coming into the city with mountains of around 6000 feet in the background were fabulous. However, time marches on and this morning, we caught a flight to Sucre, the constitutional capital of Bolivia (not for long, La Paz recently were given the honour). But more about all that soon.
P.S: big shout out to Maeve Pelly who is finally coming to grips with the 'interweb'. Be patient with her Pelly's!
