Oh dear, I mixed up my days a bit. This is what we did when we returned home from Woolgoolga. I really shouldn't skip a day without writing it down. We returned to Coffs Harbour and carried on with what I've written next.
This friendly and relaxed city on the surf is surrounded by a natural environment and looks out over the Solitary Islands. There is a choice of over 90 beaches in this area and one of the most beautiful is within our walking distance, we could have stayed on that beach all day. We settled in this day to enjoy the sun & surf and soak up the memories that need to last a long, long time since we'll be heading home soon.
A stones throw away from this beach and also within our walking distance is the Muttonbird Island Nature Reserve.
It is a place of special significance to the local Gumbayniggirr people who call the island Guidany Miirlarl, meaning moon place. (Love these names)
It is also the home of shearwaters, a seabird that migrates to southeast Asia in winter and uses Muttonbird Island as its island rookery. The birds breed and nest in thousands of burrows. We saw many of the burrows but only one of the birds. We figured that because it was so hot and sunny the mother birds were keeping their babies in the burrows. We followed the walking track on this island to panoramic views of the Coffs Coast. I must have taken a thousand pictures.
This evening we went to see Lincoln at the movies.
Temp. 37C and sunny
