Anna & Kerry's South America Travels
Hey everybody,
In Arequipa at the moment have had a couple of slow days and havent really done much neaded a rest after the busy first week.
Have been out and about again today though, visited the Santa Catalina Monastry. It was a huge maze of rooms, courtyards and mini streets surrounded by high walls and once housed 300 people. Nowadays there are about 30 nuns still living inside the walls and never leaving, but the monastry is really more of a tourist attraction. It was amazing how calm and peaceful it was inside the walls compared to the noise and business of the city outside, (even though the monastry is in the centre of the city).
Have also booked onto a 2 day tour of the Colca Canyon so will be doing that on sat and sun (my birthday yay).
Had a wander round the centre of Arequipa this afternoon, its rather touristy and full of little souvenir shops so have brought a couple of bits to bring home.
Unfortunatly we are no longer able to brag about the weather, it has rained for the last 3 days (although not constantly) and although fairly warm is not sunny, (no risk of sunburn here for thew worrying mothers among you!!)
Hope all is well back home, keep in touch
Love Kez and Anna
