OK, so lets start with the trip to Nanjing. This was our next stop after Bejing. The Beijing station was chaos! It being our first train station ever…and being one of the biggest in China and lacking english signs, it was a wee bit difficult to navigate at 10 30 pm while wearing giant backpacks!!!I think we properly acted the part of VERY confused tourist as a nice random gentleman ended up helping us to the proper train car. (wich involved various rooms, large pushing crowds and long walks)He ended up being a tout who tried to get us to use a overpriced hotel but hey he got us to where we needed to be and finally left us alone after we said no about 30 times. We also lucked out and got a nice soft sleeper on the train. ( this basically means we get a spacious bunk)It's the best way to travel by train!
Once in Nanjing we went to the Memorial Hall…but that being closed on Monday as we found out…we decided to check out the city botanical garden instead…not all that amazing. The nost interesting part was a bonsai section, and there is only so much you can say about mini trees…
The War Memorial Hall, which we finally got to see, was very cool though. It basically went over the Japanese invasion of the city in WWII, including all the various details and backstories. It also had a mass grave which was excavted and open to the public. Very morbid but I liked it.
