Yesterday morning we got the bus early and headed straight to the kiwi experience office with a bus full of people (thankfully!) to sort out any last minute changes. It was here I met 6 girls who were planning on making their way back to Auckland in a few days time to see the All Blacks vs France game on Saturday, and I was tempted to do the same so booked my buses to match, knowing we could get cheapy tickets from nomads hostel.
Our first stop was Tairua for a quick supermarket shop and food top up before heading to cathedral cove for a 45 minute coastal 'walk' (trek more like!) down to a beach which apparently is meant to be gorgeous.. Unfortunately the weather meant that wasn't quite the image we saw but I guess it was a nice view and also good exercise getting down there and back up again! In the evening we stayed at Hot Water Beach Holiday Park, a cute and modern little hostel close to the famous beach. Once dark had hit and the tide was out, we headed over with our shovels to find the promised hot water beneath the sand. After a fair while of digging about we finally came across it - they weren't lying that it's hot, it's scolding!
Once home and dried we spend the evening booking our transport back up to auckland for the rugby match and I enjoyed a fairly early night in my lovely double bed :) this morning we are heading off early, destination - Waitomo. Can't cope with all these early starts, but at least it's good practise for the uni lifestyle.... Amy x
