Hey everyone! Si and I are now in Ko Samui, after meeting up with our friend Tara in Bangkok.
After going out for dinner at the interestingly named "Cabbages and Condoms" (which was actually really nice!) we headed back to Tara's hotel with her, only to find our driver had no idea where he was going and couldn't speak a word of English. Having only our Lonely Planet with us with about 10 words of Thai in it, we managed to work out that Road 55 translated roughly as "Soi Ha Ha". Thus followed a ridiculous conversation consisting of us and the driver repeating "Ha Ha! Ha Ha!" before we finally gave up and got out of the car, 100 baht lighter and in the middle of nowhere! Thankfully the next driver actually knew where to go and Tara got home safely!
After saying goodbye to Tara we took the sleeper train from Bangkok on Wednesday night, then got a bus to the port and then a ferry across to Ko Samui, finally arriving at our hotel, the Imperial Boathouse, at lunchtime. The hotel is beautiful and we got an amazing deal on the room - we have two pools and the beach is only a 3 minute walk from our room. The breakfast is also amazing - I can't eat enough of it! :-) Stupidly though we have got used to the sun in Africa and India (which didn't seem to burn us at all) and so sat out yesterday morning, only to get frazzled by the sun, even though it was cloudy and raining! Doh!
The next few days we're just going to relax by the pool and chill out - bliss! :-)
