Monday 7 March
Going through customs is painless and we are soon wondering around Dubai airport. We settle in a spot on the floor neAr the metro and try and get some sleep. When we feel a bit better we go find some chairs. We eat our baked biscuits and nuts from the flight. I repack my bag so there are less things to carry in my hands. When we are ready we buy credit for the metro and head to our stop where the markets are. There is enough time and money so I buy an extra pair of pants like the pair I brought before. The stall is there and I find what I like. The owner us from India and chats with Malcolm. He seems to ignore me which is weird. Back at the metro station we buy the further tickets we need and spend the rest of the money on food. At the etihad mall we are able to check in and wait in air-conditioning. The bus leaves about 12 and I'm asleep before we leave Dubai. The speed limit on the roads is 120-140! 80 for trucks. It's about 1.5 hours to Abu Dhabi airport. It's raining. We figure where to go and repack our bags once more. The lines are very short and we are soon through security. There is a very large couch outside our gate so we take up residence. It's so many hours. We sleep, walk around, read, watch things on our phones. Eventually the time passes and we board. It feels very squished compared to the Kenya plane. No leaning forward and resting on the tray in this plane. We watch a movie, eat dinner and try to sleep. I asked the flight attendant about saving a vegetarian option meal (mac and cheese) and she was kind to do so.
