Tuesday 3rd November
We get up, have breakfast and head out to find the subway. And it's delightfully fine and sunny outside! We have tickets for the park Güell at 9:30. The metro is pretty easy to work out, but not quite as cheap as Paris. It's a walk up a lot of stairs that crosses lots of streets. Eventually we find the park and wander down till at last we find the entrance to the monument. The designer style is all over the city. Columns, rounded edges and ceramic mosaics. It's very fun. Next we decide to walk to the La Sagrada Famíla. It's a long walk. But the church building is impressive, despite the extensive work bring done on it. It's very pricey to go inside so we just enjoy the outer. Thankfully the next building we check out isn't so far away. It also costs so we just enjoy the outer of the casa batlló and casa ametler. Apparently the light work at night is amazing. Hopefully we can be back to check it out. We find we are close to our accommodation so we head back so Mal can get a snooze and we can get our better map.
We see groups of Africans with what looks to be fake brand handbags. They are laid out on a sheet with rope through each corner. As though ready for a quick getaway and as we walk by a whole group pull their roped sheets and cart them away On their backs. I didn't see any trigger, but who knows! After the nap we head out again. We walk to a large tower/gate thing that is the entrance to a park like area. There is also a lovely fancy fountain/statue within the park. From there we walk to the beach and along it. There is some interesting modern architecture. There are tons of Africans with their fake bags and shoes set up all along the harbour. But they don't seem to be selling much. Maybe ppl are afraid. We walk up the Main Street and see street artists and venders who seem to magically disappear when the police are around. Lots of souvenir stores and restaurants. We get an ice cream to share and head back to the hostel. I get dinner while Malcolm discovers a mishap with the flights. They have changed one- to the next day! What? It cannot be the next day, we have already booked accommodation and onward flights. In the end Mal is able to call them and fix it. The very basic kitchen is quite messy because ppl don't do their dishes as requested. I decide to wash them all. Then we decide to head out and see some lights only discover it's raining! Again? But there isn't much wind and we head out to see the lit up fountains and house. Bed is very appealing.
