Wow! A week has passed with quick speed! I was beginning to think we wouldn't find somewhere to live! It's do hard to break into the renting market here! Anyway, there were two places having inspections on the same week day so I went along and filled out the forms in between inspections! I had already printed off the supporting documents before hand in preparation. Janna-Lee had suggested talking to the agents so that they knew who you were etc and your story when it came to making a decision, so I had arrived early for one and was able to talk with them. When we left we undecided which property we would prefer so would contact them in the morning. They left us with a positive impression; that we might get a property. The next day we were approved for both! Just depending on our preference. Yay! Such a blessing.
In other news- I went to a Tupperware party with Janna-Lee which was very nice. Mac was wondering why I should go to someone else's party! He'd never heard of Tupperware parties before. I Got a cool key ring and learned how to use my fridge container properly!
Thursday afternoon was spent scurrying around second hand shops for furniture! We found a lovely arm chair $30 and apparent queen bed base $40. On Thursday night we went late night shopping(browsing). Overall- seems like we have the same shops in new Zealand: this is a bit gutting. I did find I like target. They have nice clothes- nicer quality etc compared to Kmart and big W. I guess like farmers. Anyway I will need a job before I go there again!
Friday: went to real estate agent and signed all the forms and got the keys for our new place.
Friday night: went to NASA (Newcastle Adventist student association) tea and bible study. Good to meet other people. I took asparagrass rolls: they werent too popular. JL says they don't really have they over here. We enjoyed the left overs.
Sabbath: went to wallsend church again and there was a church lunch. Afterward went for a walk at black butt reserve. Then down to college where we went for a walk with Heidi and Anthony and had yummy Thai for tea. There was a beautiful concert on due to homecoming weekend.
Sunday: got up early packed all our stuff up (all 2 suitcases) in preparation for moving. Now we had the big mission of finding furniture for the house. Off to the weekend markets just down from where we were staying. We found a table we liked and the man said $10 for it! Next was the couch: good condition and pull out single bed. The man said $5 ( but we ended up paying $10- still a bargain in comparison to the other 2nd hand shops!). Found a great Tupperware bargain so brought 2 containers. We paid and hustled the things down stairs onto the top of macs work ute ( I still have sore elbows from all the lifting!). We unloaded the things and went to pick up our purchases from Thursday + a pair if shoes and microwave. Brought a new mattress from a company gone bust sale and got pillows and quilt. We look at new fridges and decided the working ones at the 2nd hand shop were actually a great deal- so rush back before they closed at 3pm and brought one! All purchases inside- hmm we find queen base is actually a double- oh well we have a new style bed!
Everyone came for a look- then we went back to JLs and Steves for home made pizza, custard and chocolate pudding with Heidi and Anthony. What a busy day!
Monday wasn't much better! We had no cutlery or plates so that was a must! I also had all the right documents to apply for my Australian nursing registration so that also was a must; but I needed a JP to verify my documents. I left home early and copied all I needed. Then had a bit of a goose chase to find JP only to be told at the last place- actually we don't know where they are. Mac was a great help and his answer needed up right! Finally! Went to the Salvos and got 4 chairs and all the plates, cutlery and glasses + one pot! Get back to the shopping centre to post my application only to find a need a certified witness to see me sign. Oh dear I wished I'd known that before I'd left JP! Finally found a pharmacist who did it for me! All posted! Brought a few cleaning things and visited JL and Ellie for a bit- the Kmart for the final things: toaster, vacuum cleaner, lamp, fry pan, duvet cover and a few kitchen utensils. Big cleaning job all the 2nd hand things before starting tea! Mac was a super help and we got it done. Exhausted in bed just after 8! Phew! I think I'll just have a quiet day cleaning etc today, maybe look for a temporary job.....
