Tuesday 15 September
Morning comes too soon. It's after 8 by the time we go down for breakfast. We leave about 9am for the country side via the supermarket. We reach the huge Changgis Khan and have an hour to explore inside which houses museums, souvenir shops, a restaurant, and a lift up info the statue. Some of the others pay extra to dress up in traditional costumes and they look very good. They want to extend the options adding thousands of horse statues and have Ger camps around it. It's another hour to the camp we are staying. On the way we stop to taste fermented mere's milk. Apparently it's gross! We skip out. The countryside changes from barren plains with distant rolling hills dotted with gers and permanent dwellings to hills and autumn leaves and craggy rocks. At the Ger camp we are split into four and we get settled and have lunch of salad, soup and fried dumplings. We have to decide on horse riding or not. Malcolm is keen until he learns the price. We take a lovely hike into the hills and down to a temple and back. A good way to pass 3 hours. Then we relax in our Ger, snack and talk to our CEO. I even fit in a little nap. Our local guide talks to is about the Ger and it's creation, and nomadic life. It's very interesting. Then it's archery with a horn bow. I'm not very good, but some ppl are! We have dinner, and I'm feeling a little short changed. Their vegetarian option seems to consist of carrot, cabbage, onion and potato.
When we go back to our Ger someone comes and lights a fire and soon it's hot! Lovely. Ready for bed!
