Saturday 28 November
Why do I ALWAYS get the bed that bites. I awake to itchy eye lids and shoulders. My face looks horrible and my neck too. When I look in the mirror my arms and back didn't escape either. But thankfully the rest did! Maybe it's the pillow. Grr!!
We have breakfast and get ready to go out. It's a beautiful clear sunny day. Malcolm says the forecast is for wind. When we go down before we say anything she wants to give us a different room. I'm happy! We go and collect our bags and leave them in reception. The lady gives us a map and we head out. We decide to walk out to one end of the island. It's about 9.8km each way and the sign days 3 hours. It's a beautiful walk along the cliffs amongst the houses and accommodation built there. The wind is so strong it sometimes feels like it will blow us away. At the top of a hill we stop for lunch and decide to wait around a bit for some dark clouds to pass. It starts to rain so we take shelter in a cave in the hill. The rain is light and soon stops. Malcolm deems it clearing so we keep going. But as we descend the other side we see a last rush of dark clouds and it's coming this way. We hurry down the hill. It's hard for me. The wind is so strong and the path with loose rocks and uneven. Rain whipped sharp as glass by the wind beats us unmercifully. We try and take shelter by a wall but it doesn't do much. We get quite soaked as we crouch next to the wall. Our umbrellas are not much good and get broken and twisted by the whirling wind. But the rain passes. Thankfully the wind continues. And as we climb up the next hill the wind and sun help dry us out. It's not without it's causalities: the umbrella's, My jeans develop a hole under the belt loop when I try to pull them up and Malcolm's shirt rips. It's a beautiful view from the top and then we wind our way down through the sweet little village until we get to the point. There are a few old wind mills here. They really should do something to generate power from all thus crazy wind! I'm happy for my buff that keeps my hair contained and my ears covered. Malcolm wants to take the bus back but I suggest walking back. So off we go over the 3 hills and back down to the accommodation. We see a lovely sunset, but our strength is waning for sure. We are glad to get our new room on the 2nd floor with a sea view. We relax a short time then go out for dinner and bring it back to the room - falafels, wraps and chips. So good over an old movie about coming to America. I enjoy a hot shower tonight. Unfortunately Malcolm isn't so lucky.
