Friday 17th April
We don't have to leave on the bus until 2pm. Lots of time to shower and do my hair! And pack and post my blogs. Don't forget sterilising water. We meet at 10.30 to go out for traditional volcano soup made from corn and veges.
We catch taxis there. Our taxi driver brought his car recently for $9000usd for a car probably 2-4 grand in NZ or au. So expensive! They didn't make vegetarian soup today sadly. There are 3 of us veges. Mal and I still order a bowel between us. It comes out bubbling like a volcano from a hot volcano rock placed in the bowel. The soup is hearty and we only find 3 small pieces of beef to extract. Yum! We get taxis back to the hotel and walk to the supermarket to buy snacks for tomorrow. I don't like supermarkets here. I miss my normal snack selections. There are no such things as dips or hummus. We wait at the hotel until we catch our bus for a 3-4hour ride. The scenery is beautiful in its own way. Very rocky, rugged and dry. Apparently quinoa likes dry conditions, do it's the only crop. Lots of llama herds. From a high point we get a great view of the vast flats ahead. The town uyuni exists only for tourists and is very rich. You'd never know it from its looks. Dusty unpaved roads for the most part, some mud brick buildings and the typical 'lets not finish anything' look.
We check into our hotel and then a short tour of the Main Street before dinner. There really isn't anything here. We get pizza for dinner and head back for an early night. We pass something seventh day adventist. It looks like a church and looks open for vespers.
