Today has been very exciting we visited a lot of Delhi's best bits, this included; Red Fort, Delhi gate, Delhi University, Government buildings, Lodi gardens, Humayuns Tomb, India Gate, Qutab Minar (tallest brick minaret in the world), Ghandi Smriti (where Ghandi was assassinated), Parliament House, Cricket and common wealth games stadiums and Dilli Haat (Indians best market).
This tour was brilliant and cost us just 1200 rupees which is less than £6 each for a 5 hour tour and stop off!!
Before leaving the hotel we had breakfast at the hotel which was an omelette (basically a massive scrambled egg) and toast with butter and jam which was good and a black cuppa tea!!
We saw a lot of poverty children begging and banging on our windows and people sleeping on the main roads that had limbs missing and were extremely skinny!! The amount of stray dogs is also for nominal and the amount of chipmunks dotted about.
Today when we asked it was 32 degrees very hot walking about and we kept having to buy water to keep hydrated. We experienced our first public toilet which wasn't that bad, yes it was stinky and the floor was soaked but I was prepared for the toilet in the ground. Such a different way of life here people are still staring but were getting used to it.
At the lotus temple we had to take our shoes off to walk around and the floor was extremely hot. Ants are huge and there are so many pretty dragon flies, the grass and trees are so green which I didn't expect but monsoon season has just finished I guess. We asked about the price of petrol and later saw a pump which astonished us at less than 70p for a litre.
After our trip we relaxed for an hour before meeting our tour group. There are 7 of us and CP our group leader everyone is lovely and we are excited for the trip to commence. We went through our itinerary and then had to talk about ourselves and then took a taxi ride back into central Delhi to have pictures with the India gate and then we were dropped without CP in Connaught place which is a massive shopping area. The group had to get ourselves back to the hotel in one piece. One member GG was sick and ended up returning with CP but the rest of us ventured around and found an Indian McDonald's to try!! Ed shock got a burger a masala one and I tried these veggie bites that tasted hot and spicy like a samosa. We got to know one another and travelled across the city by metro home which was very busy and exciting.the metro cost us 9 and a half pence!! Ridiculous!! We got back to the Yug villa and showered ready for dinner of which CP is taking us to a local Indian which he describes as darrrrrlicious haha!! Cannot wait :)
Speak soon to let you know the verdict!!
