Hi everyone!! It's been a while again (sorry) but you will find out exactly why in just a few thousand words...joking!!
Right last time I left you I was in Chiang Mai and finished the trek and going to Muay Thai boxing. The Boxing was brilliant! Got a bit bloodthirsty at one point and had to rethink exactly what my profession was....But mum would have loved it!!! It's rainy season here so funnily ebough i've been getting wet alot, but luckily it seems t rain at night givign us a loveyl hot and humid day and respite during the evening times! Driving to the Muay Thai was hilarious though, four of us in the back of a tuk tuk in the pouring rain whilst the guys behind us were on a motorbike wearing poncho's..now for future reference people, poncho's are really not that waterproof in monsoon season!!
Us trek guys seemes to like eachother enough to carry on to Laos together, so we embarked on our three day journey to Luang Prabang via the slow boat (the most scenic way to get ther don't you know!)
The border crossing Thailand/Laos was hilarious!! Literally jump over the river and you're there, with passport control AND a duty free!! (do they even pay taxes there??) anyways, got some fruit mentos for a little cheaper...i think. In Laos the money is Kip and it's about 10,000kip to the pound. I ffel like I'm a millionaire and spending crazy money but in actuality I'm not. Just like back in Mongolia!! The slow boat was suprisingly fast! (or i thought so anyways!!) but I guess I'm alot more used to spending lots of time on boats and trains complared to everyone else! Stayed in a place calledPak Beng overnight and dad you're going to love this.....Had a curry!!!! It wasn't as nice as the ancient raj (In Canterbury, go there people!!) but it was beautiful! Even popadums with all the sauces...mmmm! I'm like pavlov's dog just thinkign about it! The rest of the boat journey was kind of spent with me sleeping and burning my ankles....comlpetely unsure how this happened!!! but have a cool anklet tan now (Just need to start on the rest ofme now!)
Laos in general was a beautiful place!!! (and secrety I didn't think I was going to like it! Unsure why) Luang Prabang was very quaint with it's UNESCO heritage sights and old French Colonial buildings, bakeries and other French things that you can think of. Full of pagoda's we got on the bikes and played "what Wat"-like the pun?? and creeped around night markets in search of fine silks and in my case a stawberry milkshake! It was calm and relaxing, Vang Vieng on the other hand was the Ibiza of Laos!!! Surrounded by drunk spotty sweaty English people getting drunk and floating down the river in a big rubber ring, Sign me up!! haha! The tubing was a lot of fun! Not even because of the consumption of boose but the atmosphere there was "Let's all have a great time" and I liked it! But too much of a good thing they say...so we made our way to Vientiene; the Capital. Or should I say "Capital" because I swear it was smaller than both L.P and V.V!! Had no feel of a capital ever but did however find a rival for the big Jade vase and had a lot of lovely places to eat! The belgian girls 'dragged' us to a lovely French restaurant and we ate like Kings! It was nice to feel satisfied and full! Plus it was Lamb! Not mutton, Lamb!!! Yay!
We flew to Hanoi from Vientiene, it was the smallest plane I've ever been on, I could even reach the overhead luggage compartments!! (I can be an air hostess afterall!!!) Hanoi is CRAZY!!!! I have never see so many people in such a small place in my life and everyone, literally evryone has a scooter and they all ride them around all day in circles I think because there is always a torrent of scooters and cars on thr roads, if they can't quite fit on the road they'll take the path instead, very considerate! Hanoi people aren't as friendly as a thought they might be but I think that has something to do with the traffic, or the fact they are all wearing stupid masks and horse riding helmets....
To get out of the hustle and bustle of Hanoi we went on an excursion to Halong bay, It's a sea version of Yanshuo for those who have seen my pictures. It's beautiful and lovely to be able to get out and swim amongst the islands and in the caves. Saw soem sea-towns! People who put their house on a flat and just keep it there tethered t the rock, there was a bank, a supermarket and a pharmacy in the one we went to, very funny!!!
Back to Hanoi briefly before the bus to Hue, we saw the water puppetry!! It was very funny (though I think it should have been viewed more from an adult an cultural perspective) but come on! Puppets with arms flailing in the water and splashing people?? Comedy in a pool! The bus to Hue was considerably the best so far in Asia...I will not tell you about the others! ha! It was a sleeper bus (never knew they existed) and I had my own bed...thankfully! Only thing keeping me awake was the driver bibbing his horn every 5 seconds but the sunrise more than made up for it!!!
Here in Hue, we have seen lots of pagoda's and plan to go see the Citadel later today but for now, chilling by the pool, I deserve a little rest and relaxation don't you think?? Tommorrow on our way to Hoi-An and starting to beachcomb our way along the eastern coast!! Bring on the tan (But not freckbrow or frecktasf please!!) Oh and not sure if it's like it at homw but the sun here has a halo!!! Made by Cirrus crystals apparently! Go see if the sun is doing it where you are too!
Talk soon guys! xxx
