Amelia, Round The Other Side!
WE were supposed to be in Mui Ne for a couple of days. Lynsey and david were there already and janine and i got the night bus, but it forgot to drop us off and we ended up in siagon! it obviuosly just wasnt meant to be.....! Did the whole saigon or Ho Chi Min city as it is now known, but the central district is still called siagon. saw the notre damn catherdral and wandered about the streets and went to the war museum. that was actually the most disturbing thing i ahve seen it was exhibitions of photographers work and words who were in vietnma during the war! really some disturbing stuff! any american going there must feel ashamed for what some members of their country did! all in the past now! we were pretty zonked after long long bus journey so it was an early night. we went to a water park the next day and felt so out of place!!! they dont wear swimming costumes here they go swimming fully clothed or half clothed!! its bizzare!1 Janine and i only had our bikinis and as there was only maybe about 6 westeners in the whole place and thousands of vietnamese we ended up wearingor vest tops too!! had nothing else to change into afterwards so were very wet for a while! park was good, slides were great although jnaine hurt her foot coming off the kamikazee as the pool at bottom was too shallow! something to remind us how small these people are!! i even feel very tall!! we then went a walk arounf dam sen park which was the wierdest mixture of things i ahve ever sen! from sculptures of dragon and ther creatures made out of spoons and china sets (beautiful) to plastic dogs standing on giant water melons.....really what was that about!even got the local bus there which was fun! and very cheap! david and lynsey got tosigon that night and we went out for dinner and a few beers. for a saturday night there wsnt much happening!! i swaer it is busier tonight its monday! we went on a tour yesterday to the cadoism temple and the Cu Chi tunnels! the temple was pretty cool it was some religion created by in part victor hugo!! ittakes bascally all the best bits from buddism, catholicism (spelt wrong i know but you dumb down when traveling) and deoism (ithink) all three are represented. with jesus and everything! was bizzare butreally lovely! we then went to the Cu Chi tunnels! that was really interesting! seeing the size of the holes these people hid and lived down! we went through one that was widened for tourism and it was tiny!!! saw bomb creators and learned about how thepople lived and hid from the enemy. Got to fire an AK-47 too!! that was great!!!it was down a proper range and the gun was mounted so it could only face down the range! was good fun though but very loud! you could shoot a machine gun too but i didnt have enought money with me :( maybe in cambodia! Today we went on a tour to the mekong delta and saw how they make coconut candy and honey and i tried jack fruit for the first time!! it smells funky but tastes good! I got to hold a gaint python too! iot was totally wrapped around my body and felt really cool! you should see my face in the first photo! not one of my classiest moments! ha ha! we also heard traditional music and went about in boats etc... the last song the group sang was auld lang syne but in vietnamese! or at least to that tune! was a really good day! We are heading to cambodia tom morning! cant belive i am going into my last new country!!!! Have had to work out all cash required for when I am there as there are no ATM facilities or international banking facilities! was a little daunting but i found a sneaky stash of dollars i had so am on a high about that!
