We arrived Calm Canberra a couple of days ago and acutely felt the -1 overnight temperatures. It is a very quiet city, and the streets seem so empty, we wondered where everyone was. On Tv it shows people walking up and down corridors, parks, etc being chased by reporters in and out of cars.... But we saw nothing, I hate to think they were avoiding us.
The kids had a great time at Questacon and to my surprise I did as well. For someone who gently excused herself from all but the biological sciences in school, I was a bit shocked to find I was enjoying and clapping as hard as the kids to "move it" an engineering show; without having to stifle a yawn.
Getting to Parliament house was a little less straightforward. Someone played games on my ipad and completely discharged the battery, so our trusted Apple GPS was out of action. We decided to use a map only function on the phone with me acting as 'the voice'. Well I was hopeless and we drove around the Capital Circle roundabout about three times, taking took the wrong exit each time. It was a bit funny because we could see our destination clearly from the car window, it was so close but so out of reach, I have never experienced any thing like that before! Eventually, tired of listening to my 'voice' hubby drove away from the roundabout calmly suggesting that we bring out an old GPS system ( some of our friends know about this GPS - on our first trip to Victor Harbour when we arrived Australia, it took us through Waikerie and Nuriootpa via the scenic route, we left loxton in the morning and got to Victor by 7pm, enough said) Fortunately, it behaved itself and led us to our destination with only a few mistakes.
The visit was worth the hassle though, we had an informative time finding out a bit more about Australian History and the various functions of the different arms of government. Child one wanted us to explain how the parliamentary system of government worked, the role of political parties in this system. We tried to explain it to him using a fictitious politician named Fred who was a Labor party member but became an independent after the last election. I had a headache halfway through the lecture, hubby finished up the lecture. Although Child one looked confused when we finished, he said he understood. The politics in the air must be working on him, even I was confused when I finished.
Next stop was Wodonga but I found out on the morning we were due to arrive that the caravan park I booked was not in Wodonga as I thought but in Edgen Vic. Well no harm done, it is right in front of Lake Hume and Wodonga is just a few kms away.
We have spent three quiet days here and will be heading down to Melbourne tomorrow. I will make sure my ipad is fully charged before we leave

Beth I remember victor Harbor and I also got lost the first time I was in Canberra which was many years ago. The reason Canberra was quiet is probably because there is no Parliament sitting. God bless
