I have only one day of work left at the sanctuary! :( I'm so so depressed to leave the sloths. But of course I'm very excited to start seeing different sights and travelling some more. I just wish I could take a sloth with me! We got a new volunteer a couple days ago, Megan from California who is 21! She seems pretty cool, but asks a ton of questions about anything and everything haha it's pretty funny. She has her two days off on Sunday and Monday when I will be in Puerto Viejo so she's going to come hang out with me which will be nice. Maybe go to the beach and do some snorkelling or something. Yesterday was Madi's last day of work so we went to Puerto Viejo for a good bye supper. We had the delicious oven baked pizza and mojitos at EZ-times. Then we got Italian gelato at a little place by the bus stop which had PISTACHIO FLAVOUR. I was so excited. So naturally I took all that was left of it. Yum yum! When we got back to the house we had some wine and stayed up until 9 pm!! Woohoo late night for us haha. Seriously. Also I gave them each a Canadian pin (mom!). They all thought that was great but no one had any for me! When I was cleaning yesterday I was in an enclosure with 5 three-toed boys and one came up from behind (they are super stealth you can't hear them) and grabbed my neck skin to like hop on my back, and wow did it hurt! He left quite a scratch when he finally let go. It wasn't pleasant. But it was ok cause I got some sloth love :) I've been sick for almost a week now which really sucks. For the first few days I kept eating what they were serving at the sanctuary but it didn't get better so now I've just started eating rice or toast here and I THINK it's starting to get a little better. I don't think they really have health safety guidelines at this place.. For example they let the dinner sit out on the counter from lunch when they make it until 6pm when you eat it. Plus everything is super salty or fried. It's so weird! You just expect everything to be fresh but it's not at all. The food in the restaurants is very good though, and there are lots of healthy non-fried options and lots of fruit and salads and things so I tend to get those when we go to town. I also haven't ruled out the water as a cause of my sickness but they did tell me it was safe to drink. So I've been drinking it from the tap, which is nice on the money at least. Spending $4 a day on water here can add up quick. We also got to go up to the nursery again yesterday because they just got a new three-toed baby. OH MY GOSH it is so cute. It looks like a little stuffed animal, it's so perfect and so tiny! It could sit in the palm of your hand easily. I posted a picture of it with this blog. Since tomorrow is my last day I will get to hold Buttercup for awhile. She is the oldest sloth here and is the "ambassador" for the sanctuary. She just chills out all day in a little hanging chair on the deck. I'm not sure exactly how old she is but it's somewhere in the late 20s I believe! Matt was telling us how Selma named him the godfather of one of her new grandkids! Then we found out that Selma has 5 daughters and 1 son, and already 13 grandkids! And she's only 47! Crazy. Also after my workout today I was showering and Paula was in the house cleaning with her music playing, and Bryan Adams "it's all for love" came on! When I got out of the shower I gave her a thumbs up and said "good song!!" And she laughed :) so maybe she's not as crusty as I thought! I bought a tank top today from the sanctuary and a key chain for Max's family to act as a Christmas ornament (they kind of collect them I guess!). I've bought a couple different bracelets in town for people and some Costa Rican cigars for Max and dad! Haha Dad I don't think I've ever seen you smoke before but I thought you might enjoy one! If you don't want it I know max will gladly take it! :P There are lots of cool souvenirs here that I'd love to get but I know I still have 2 and a half months to trek with everything, and they are too big! There are some beautiful cutting boards that I really want... They are blonde and dark and purple checkered wood! They have a tree that has this burgundy/purple color of wood and it's so pretty! I thought about mailing some things home but I don't really trust the mail system.. We also got a new girl three-toed sloth who fell in the earthquake. She wasn't badly injured, just stunned and I think they will be able to let her go soon. That's all for now!
