Day 21!
After getting up at 4:30 in the morning and enduring a 2 hour flight delay, I finally arrived in Madrid at 5:00 PM. I took a taxi to my AirBnb and attempted my first conversation in Spanish. Let's just say it wasn't my best, and my driver probably thought I was an idiot. But, hey, I definitely was not in England anymore.
Before landing, I looked out the window and was so excited about the grass or lack thereof. This was totally different landscape, and I was loving it before I even landed. After meeting up with my friends and putting my backpack in the apartment, I set off to explore the city. Since we really only go two days, we stayed mainly in the touristy area of Puerta del Sol. I got to see the royal palace as well as some amazing Spanish architecture. We settled at a restaurant where I had my first Paella. It was a mixture of chicken, shrimp, and some other unidentifiable meats. All of which were delicious. We ate outside where the weather was warm, and we could watch the people walk by.
Afterwards, we saw a protest and some singers in the large plaza-like area. Then we ventured out to look down other streets. In the middle of one neighborhood, we found a Mexican bar. Thus, I had a margarita in Spain and am proud of it nonetheless. On the Metro back to the apartment, a guy jumped on and began to play his Spanish guitar. That's when it hit me; hearing that and the language being spoken, I was in Spain.
I watched the sun finally set about 11:00 PM that night and watched the people walk up and down the street. I then decided to get some rest to prepare for Toledo tomorrow!

Brenda Hall I am thinking a margarita in Spain would be better than one almost anywhere else! Glad you enjoyed what sounds like a fabulous first day
