Gorgeous dinner last night in Sindhu, the Indian speciality restaurant on board. Fusion Indian really, but very well presented and delicious. We both felt that if we'd been served it for £15 each (cover charge) on land we would think we'd had a brilliant deal. Not sure it was worth that surcharge above the food served in the "free" restaurants though. Verdict: glad we tried it, probably wouldn't bother again.
So, today was the first we could describe as truly hot. We had breakfast in the formal dining room because they had devilled kidneys on as a special and they are just one of my great favourites, totally yummy, but increasingly not on menus. Then off to bridge after which we pegged out beside one of the swimming pools with our kindles. It was boiling hot. Some people have already got a bit of a burn on… Anyway, very much enjoyed basking in the sun and actually had two swims. The pool is a bit heated which is nice. There are three pools on the ship: 2 up on the top deck, one of which is under a glass roof which is slid right back in good weather (like now). The other is at the rear with tiered terraced decks going up from it. That's generally our favourite but they are only just filling it so….
Painting this afternoon was of a scene from the Cape Verde Islands. I have to say that our offerings were cr**. Totally awful! I blame the sun… Bob's landscape looks like Mordor with Mt. Doom in the middle. It only lacks some flames coming out of the top and a golden eye somewhere. Mine has a tree that looks like a giant green jellyfish growing on a sausage. Our tutor is so nice though. It must be difficult for him to keep a straight face but he always finds some positive comment and tries to help.
Afterwards we had a chat with some of the other CruiseCritic forum members on the rear terrace deck and then went for a brisk couple of circuits around the promenade deck. There were hundreds of flying fish bouncing off the bow wave of the ship. Like tiny flights of silver hummingbirds. Also visible some patches of floating seaweed which I think may be the Sargasso sort.
Two very good shows tonight. We especially enjoyed a three piece group the Fly-Rites who performed mostly R&B and Tamla Motown hits complete with dancing. Soooo good.
Clocks went back another hour tonight. We are now 2 hours behind the UK with another hour to go by the time we reach Recife on Monday.
