Sorry guys…I know it’s been awhile since my last post. This is the result of several things. Number one…internet is terrible here. Sometimes it works, most of the time, it doesn’t. Number two…I have to pay for the internet here (the horror). And number three…well, I just haven’t really done much in the past six days. I moved down to the islands, Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Samui on the east coast of Thailand. If anyone has seen the movie The Beach (I know Mshell has), that is what you should picture. Gorgeous. Perfect. I don’t want to leave this place. Ever. Koh Pha Ngan was quite and isolated…I had a little bungalow on the beach. I truly believe that I could have stayed there forever. Koh Samui is more lively…shopping, nightlife…but my main reason for stopping on Koh Samui was to take a snorkeling trip over to Koh Tao. Wouldn’t you know it…cancelled due to weather. Ah well….
But, seriously, I just haven’t done that much worth writing about. Sat on the beach. Swam in the pool. Attempted to swim in the ocean….hindered by monster waves and my slight, but I believe perfectly reasonable, fear of being eaten by a shark. Ate too much. Drank too much. Read my kindle and napped in a hammock when it rained. By the way, it rained A LOT. Go figure, it hardly rains at all for the past five weeks, but when I get to the beach, it rains almost continuously. Not that I let this stop me, mind you. The rain actually meant that the pool and ocean were much less crowded. And when it really poured, I retreated to my hammock. I’m not complaining. And instead of snorkeling, which did bum me out a lot when it fell through, I spent the afternoon at the spa. Getting my first mud wrap. Which, coincidentally, will also be my last mud wrap. Never again. Why on earth I thought that was a good idea, I will never know. They basically strip you naked, cover you with mud, and wrap you, tightly, in saran wrap. Damn you claustrophobia, damn you. I was supposed to stay wrapped up for 30 minutes. I made it….about 3. Live and learn.
So that’s about it for the past six days. Pretty uneventful. I have been in Thailand now almost two weeks, and I will admit that I am completely and totally taken with this country. This surprised me a bit. I wasn’t expecting to love Thailand the way that I did. The Thais are some of the most lovely people that I have ever met. Tomorrow I take a flight down to Kuala Lumpur for my last final days. I can’t believe it has gone by so quickly. I’m slightly sad to be leaving SE Asia, but there are a few things that I miss terribly about home. Interested? I made a list:
The things I miss:
1. My bed (no surprise there…I have the best bed).
2. My loved ones, especially the girls on Sunday nights.
3. Cooking for myself…and muscle milk.
4. Brushing my teeth with water from the tap.
5. Putting toilet paper in the toilet (which, let’s be honest, is just where it is supposed to go).
Though even while writing this list, I am longing for my hammock on Koh Pha Ngan. Sigh. Four countries down, only one to go.
