Finally a short entry for you all!
Saying adios to the desert, we began the long haul to the Dead Sea. The five hour drive went well, except for a small fly situation. Good god the flies. They were out of control. For a second, we thought we had taken a wrong turn and wound up in Africa.
We finally arrived at the Dead Sea, the lowest point of Earth coming in at 400 meters below sea level. The Dead Sea came to it's name because the salty water kills off virtually all marine life. By comparison, sea water is about 4% salt, while the Dead Sea comes in at over 30%. That's a lot of salt.
The reason we came to the Dead Sea was to float. The high salt content makes the water so buoyant that it is virtually impossible to sink. So we floated, and coated ourselves in Dead Sea mud, and floated some more, and swam in the pool, and really just got in some gold old rest and relaxation. It was glorious. I mean, I wouldn't have changed our time in Petra or the desert for anything in this world, but to get a hot shower and a clean bed is, well, kind of life restoring. Tomorrow we leave Jordan for our 22 hours in Dubai. Home soon!
