Iceland day 5 - Obligatory day in Reykjavik, the most northern capital city in the world. We spent the day eating, wandering the streets, souvenir shopping, and visiting churches, museums, concert halls, and cemeteries.
I suppose that I shouldn't say obligatory, as I actually find myself half in love with Reykjavik. Even with the semi-constant wind and drizzle of rain. It smells like fresh earth and the sea. There is insane graffiti around every corner, geometric churches, ultra modern glass concert halls, life sized troll art, brilliant bright colored houses, and the most gorgerous secret garden cemetery you've ever seen. And while the city doesn't have the stark and compelling beauty of the rest of Iceland, it is unique and striking.
And that's pretty much it. We leave tomorrow on a late flight, so this will be my last Iceland post. I feel humbled and honored to be fortunate enough to have gotten to know just a smidge of Iceland's beauty.
