The wanderings of Alice
Sailing the Whitsundays was an exciting experience....minus the sea sickness! We went for a 3 day 2 night tour on a sailing boat called New Horizon with around 30 other keen sea goers. The sea didn't seem that rough but we were certainly bouncing around a bit!! So much so that following the trip Jo and I still feel like we're on a boat with the world apparently spinning around us! Anyway, we spent that evening getting to know each other. The next morning we were dropped at a beach and walked up to a viewing point to look over to Whitsunday Beach itself, all prestine and clear waters. We then went down to the beach itself to be the first to lay our foot prints on the pure silica sand. We then sailed to the spot where we'd be diving and snorkelling. We went to about 8m in depth for our dive which lasted around 20 mins after learning a few basic skills and hand signals required for diving. It's a whole other world under the sea and there were fish and coral of every colour imaginable!! Luckily, no jellyfish encounters. However we still had to wear our very fetching all in one stinger suits...sexy stuff! We took an underwater camera with us so we hope to have captured some good underwater scenes with it. That evening we played some very silly drinking games and had a bit of sing song with Dave our skipper being rudely awoken to play the guitar for us. More snorkelling the next day where we encoutered the hugest fish affectionately known as Elvis, capable of swallowing slices of bread whole! The journey back to shore was a somewhat wet one as it felt like half the sea was sprayed on board with us...nice! It finally brightened up as we made our way into harbour so we went to dry off on the beach and wait for out coach to take us to Hervey Bay...
