hello from Singapore, my first stop in South East Asia!
I arrived yesterday evening, flying in from Melbourne which was about 8 hours and a breeze thanks to Singapore Airlines who were class- I watched 4 movies and was constantly kept entertained with food. Got into changi airport which is pretty nice (as far as airports go). I made it to my hostel at Mount Emily and got an early night at 10 o'clock, although it was midnight Oz time so i didn't feel too lame going to bed.
In the morning I woke up in my air conditioned room only to walk outside into the hair-dryer climate of Singapore. I'm not finding it too hot, or even to humid, the Cook Islands definately wins on those counts, but its just like a strange breeze of warm air that hits you like a wave.
Anyway, I got a bus down to Orchard Road which is the main shopping district and where all the rich kids play with everything from Prada to Armani. However, I did find a TOPSHOP which was heaven. I was in there for hours trying everything on and realised how behind fashions I am. Its all English clothes in stock and makes my Australian clothes look really "daggy".
I then met up with oppy who got here Sunday morning and we had a very western lunch coz all the smells from the food courts were so overpowering and make you feel a bit sick after a while.
We then did a bum boat trip from Clarke Quay up the river to take in some of the sights but I wasn't too impressed. we got off the boat and walked around what felt like the entire city. We explored more shopping centres, then Raffles and Little India.
Tonight we're going for a true Asian meal along the river and then hopefully for a Singapore Sling at the famous Raffles before finding a bar to catch some football.
I think its going to be really good travelling with Oppy, but he doesn't seem to have much of a clue about where we're going, which means I get to make all the decisions. It is nice just to have someone else around, but I think it will be strange to adjust after 2 months doing it alone.
Got lots more planned for tommorrow and then probably moving on from here on Tuesday as there isn't an incredible amount to do here.
