hello, last night was our first and last out in georgetown on Penang and we completely changed our perceptions of the place. the town totally came to life and had loads of really classy places to go out.
there's lots of ex-pats here so we tried to avoid the English style pubs and instead chilled out in a bar for a few cocktails then went to a very busy club that was more like a complex with bars, cafe and a whole area showing the World cup which was a tribute to Germany. it was funny watching all the malaysians getting their faces painted with the german flag-bizarre.
The club was really weird and people havn't really talked to us, they generally just ignore you. once again we we the only white people in there but was a good experience.
We left the town this morning, walking to the bus terminal and getting a very sweaty bus to Batu ferringhi on the coast. It took a while to find a decent place to stay but we eventually found a guesthouse that is pretty nice for the money. I'm not sure I've been hotter in my life than when we were walking around for accommodation-all the posh hotels looked so inviting with their pools, damn it. i literally had to peel my clothes off me!
Spent the day on the beach, having lunch in one of the fancy hotels then going on the back of oppy's Jet ski which was really good but he complained it wasn't fast enough and went horse riding on the laziest hottest horse in the world- oh dear. Going out for the football tonight but nightlife is quiet so I think a nice meal is in order. It really is very hot here and we're abusing the air-conditioning unit having it on all the time. Still seeking that illusive tan.
