We arrived at Singapore airport and caught the metro to our hostel in Chinatown. We dropped off our bags, had a quick shower and headed out to get some food. We quickly found the Bugis night market which is a huge undercover market selling anything you can possibly imagine. We grabbed a fresh dragon fruit juice and perused the many stalls and their eclectic offerings. We soon found a small but really busy chinese food hall and settled down to some delicious duck. We then headed back to our nice air-con room (first of the trip) to get some much needed shut eye.
The next morning we were up early to make the lost of our limited time in Singapore. After a quick breakfast we headed to the Quay in search of the famed Merlion statue/fountain- a lions head with a fish body, iconic in this country. We then visited the Singapore Flyer, the worlds largest giant observation wheel (like the London eye) but couldn't justify the 20 quid price ticket! After some more sight seeingand a spot of luch we headed to the CBD and the vast array of air con malls to play with some technology, one example being a pair of glasses you plug into your ipod and they project films onto a screen in the glasses - absolutely amazing!
For dinner we headed to Little India, only ten blocks from Chinatown but it felt like another planet, it really could've been downtown Mumbai. It was really busy but we found a place to eat and the waiter brought out a huge banana leaf with loads of different dishes and a couple of roti's (like naan bread). It was by far the best indian I have ever had and cost about a tenth of the price as home.
With happy tums we went back to the hostel as we were off to Kuala Lumpur in the morning. Singapore is a really great city with loads to see and do especially if you like to shop! We would definitely come back but maybe not on a travellers budget as it is not cheap!!
