We have had a week in Broome enjoying the warm weather, Cable Beach and sunsets, as well as a trip to the 100 year old outdoor cinema. We said a tearful fairwell to Royce & Sheryl, as they have now set off on their journey back home to Brisbane. What a lovely time we have had sharing this part of our journey together. Middle Lagoon is about 120km north of Broome on a very rough red dirt road, however, after the turn off, thankfully the road further north becomes bitumen for the next 80km up to Cape Leveque. Our first word on arriving at the campsite at Middle Lagoon was - WOW! We were able to set up the caravan on the top of the sand dune cliffs overlooking a beautiful bay with white beaches, rock pools and safe swimming and snorkelling. Just a brief stopover in Broome for 2 days to catch up on washing and replenish supplies before heading north on the Dampier Peninsula. Most of the tourists and 'grey nomads' have headed back south now so everything is a lot quieter than only a week ago apparently. Broome is different to what I imagined, but appears to be quite a laid back community. Tourism is the main attraction here - so of course, we had to drive on to Cable Beach, have a swim in the turquois...

A big highlight of our trip so far - an overnight luxury stay at the Horizontal Waterfalls. This trip was recommended to us and we were not to be disappointed. We were taken to the Derby airport in the afternoon and boarded our 14 seater 'Cessna Caravan Amphibian' seaplane to fly the 130km to Talbot Bay, in the Buccaneer Archipelago, landing in the bay on the water! Wow...and more 'wows' to come! The crew were great and greeted us warmly, making us feel relaxe...

We have now completed the crossing of the Gibb River Road and have arrived in Derby - a small town of about 4500 people surrounded by mudflats. It's actually quite a quaint little place with a lovely community spirit. We have spent a few days here while waiting to go on our special treat of a luxury overnight trip to the Horizontal Falls which are about 130km north of Derby in the Buccaneer Archipelago - a group of about 1000 islands. Again, no fish to be caught...
