We touched down in Nadi greeted with terrential rain and thunderstorms.... i was not a happy chappy and this was certainly not my idea of paradise but my spirits soon lifted when i bumped into an irish girl called lindsey. We ended up sharing a room together at a place called New Town hotel just down the road in Nadi. The weather for the next few days werent brillient but the rain managed to hold off and everytime the sun shone we were out around our little pool with the oil slapped on topping up our tans. My plan was to go island hopping around the figian islands for 17 days but was so disapointed when i realised how expensive the accomadation and boat passes were so spent a week on the main island at first with lindsey. To be honest we were getting a bit bored as the beach on the main island was awful (just black manky sand!) So spent a few days catching local buses into the main town to do a bit of shopping and stuff. The little buses over there are just so funny, they have jamacian tunes banging out, we felt like we were in a lilt advert or something!
I eventually started my bula pass the following week around the yassawa islands. Wow they were amazing! Ive forgotton the name of the first one where we stayed but the resort was called sunset bay. Its so nice when you get off the boats because the little figian families who own the islands greet you by singing and playing the guitar! The figians are the nicest people ive met on my whole trip and once you are on their islands with them they treat you as one of the family. I sat down with some of the figian women and they showed me how to weave bracelets out palm tree leaves. Here we also took a little boat trip to take a tour around the figian village on the other side of the island. To be able to do this you have got to present cava to the cheif of the village. Once you've done this you are free to wander anywhere around and stay as long as you like, cook, eat and sleep with them (not sleep with them litterelly like!!) Honestly i cant tell you how welcome they make you feel. Its also polite to sit and drink the cava with them. Nowlet me just explain what cava is.... its like mucky tap water that comes from a root which makes your mouth all numb and sleepy! (figians version of alcohol, they get wrecked on it!!!) Anyways after about 7 cups of it we headed back to camp feeling very sleepy and as if we'd just been to the dentist!
My next stop was the island right at the top of the yassawa's called nacula. Here is where the blue lagoon was filmed years ago. Met some more lovely people here, especially the staff. We alol sat down together to eat (all your meals were included in the accomadation pass's)
