The World is a Sweetstore
Livingston - where you are greeted off your riverboat by rastamen murmuring ´Welcome to Ganja Paradise´ - is a rather surreal town right on the tip of Guatemala, which offers a bridge between hispanic-indo Guatemala, and Caribbean Belize.
Early on, however, I managed to unwittingly annoy a local hustler, who then made the rest of our (thankfully one afternoon) stay absolutely miserable, and bordering on a little scary, sitting near us and mouthing off about us in whichever hotel/bar/restaurant we happened to be in.
This was coupled with one of the most disappointing beach visits of my entire holiday. Suncreamed up, we sauntered down to the beach end of the town only to be met by a mass of floating rubbish, and a solitary man peeing into the sea. When we turned to leave I stepped in dog mess. Sums the place up perfectly!
All of the above meant that I was positively champing at the bit to leave Guatemala and get to Belize. So the next morning, at 6am, we caught a boat, and landed into Punta Gorda, Belize.
