Day 23
Rain stopped play!
Before we left Romania Colin gave away our prizes to the hotel waiters as we had no room or no need for them; he wasn't sure if they understood his explanation of how we came by them but seemed pleased especially with the bottle of Fizz!
We had a brilliant ride today, all of the roads were fairly quiet with very few lorries but still having to watch out for mad drivers! Yesterday Colin bought a t-shirt that says BADD - Bikers Against Dumb Drivers, it is certainly apt in Romania and all of the roads were completely covered with Tarmac!
We stopped at a truck stop for dinner and Colin asked the guy to wash his bike; I was a bit concerned with the amount of hosing down he was doing and had visions of the electrics not working but once it was washed Colin rode it in to the sunshine to dry; I was very relieved!
We went through the border into Hungary with only the most cursory glance at our papers, so different from the last few controls we've been through
As we came into the town the place seemed devoid of life, but once we'd got out walking we found a street market that was bustling.
The hotel has underground parking which I had booked the bike into- I have tried wherever possible to book parking as all the information I've found on the Internet has encouraged private parking to keep the bike safe. To get to the parking Colin had to put the bike in to a lift which took it down a level. He found out later that the Receptionist who went with him had claustrophobia and wouldn't go down to the basement!
When we were in the Art Gallery we could hear all this chanting and commotion outside;.0 as we went out we saw lots of teenage girls and boys some in blue t-shirts and some in green chanting at each other: wherever we seemed to go around the town we kept coming across groups of them. We decided in the end that it had to be Freshers week, especially after watching 1 group strip off some down to their boxers and others completely naked! The hotel Receptionist confirmed that we were right!
We went back to the market to have our tea. We tried local sausages and cheese and wine, it was all very good. We watched and listened to some trditional music which made our Morris Men look posiitvely youthful! As we were finishing our meal on the tressel tables it began to rain and as in every country every one left very quickly!
