We arrived in Koh Tao and after that journey I just wanted a hostel bed but we hasn't managed to book anywhere so we was just having to turn up, the difficult part was that there was 8 of us. We jumped in a taxi and went to the other side of the island called Sairee Beach, this is the main part of the island and where all the backpackers stay. The streets were real thin and only big enough for people and scooters with shops either side. Luckily we only walked for 15 minutes or so before finding a bungalows hostel. We split into two groups of four, and went to our new home for the next 3 days. Turns out they are two double beds and we had us 3 plus the Israeli guy, I drew the short straw and have to share with him. We've travelled with him for a week or so now and he's a decent guy so it was okay. We had our silk liners to sleep in anyway. We all freshened up and headed to a bar on the beach for an early dinner, just in time for sunset. It was so beautiful and peaceful, had a very chilled dinner. I needed to go to the medical clinic to get my foot seen to because it was quite painful now. Kate came with me for support haha, because it was quite deep they had to cut around the hole to make it wider to have a dig around, they sprayed it with disinfectant which absolutely killed. I then had to hold my foot open so they could look inside, Kate had to look away at this point because she was feeling queasy due to the blood. The lady then got scissors out because the needle wasn't cutting it enough. I thought I was going to vomit. She washed it through and bandaged me up, sending me on my way with a cleaning kit. The lady was really nice and only changed me 250 baht. I didn't use my insurance because the dam excess was £125. We then met everyone back at the bar and watched the film 'The Beach', we thought it would be fun because we're going to the Island where it was filmed next week but I think we forgot how much of a dark film it is. Gave us goosebumps. It was nice to have a night off drinking, this is our island for detoxing, so far. We went back to the bungalows and had an early night. In bed by 11pm, had a little read of my book and fell asleep.
It was a bad night sleep though, tossing and turning and could feel my cold kicking in. I woke up constantly but it got to 8am and I gave up, I woke Kate because the gang was going on a snorkel trip that day but I couldn't because I couldn't get my foot wet. We wanted to put our washing into the laundrette too so we gathered it all up and took it down. Turns out I have 6kg of clothes, I washed everything I had, but one bikini and dress. Still that only costs £6 so totally worth it. I waved the guys off on there trip, it was just me and the Israeli guy, Tal, left, he couldn't go on the trip either because he had cut his back at the pool party on Koh Phangan. The two of us went out for breakfast, the two walking wounded's, had a healthy bowl of porridge with banana. We then went in search of the other four Liverpool lot from the previous island, they stayed an extra night. After no success, we gave up looking, Tal went to have a massage and I went and found some wifi and a hammock to catch up on some administration. Bumped into the Liverpool lot after a while and we all headed to the beach, I had a support on my foot so no sand could get in, the tide was quite high though so I was dodging the waves. After a little lay down I went to grab some lunch, a massive Greek salad, so tasty to have something light and fresh and to not feel bloated on the beach in the afternoon. Everyone soon returned from their trip so we all got showered and ready for din din's. Decided on the same restaurant on the beach as last night although the service was pretty slow this time as our numbers had bumped up again, there was the full group of 12 with us now. Throughout the meal everyone was dropping like flies with one illness or another, by the end we had lost four people, little Liv was part of the fallen, she had a ridiculously high temperature and flu symptoms, poor girl, we tucked her in bed and headed back out. The gang of us that was left went down the beach to one of the bars where there was a fire show on, not only a fire show but they had fire limbo (limbo stick drenched in petrol and set alight - why would you want to do that?), a flaming hoop that was held in the air and a giant skipping rope that was on fire. Bloody crazy drunk people. I was terrified for them. Especially the girls who didn't tie there hair back first. Ekkk could you imagine. The Thai men doing it clearly didn't have any concerns because they were handing out free shots to anyone who took part. After seeing enough and getting fed up of the petrol smell we went home to sleep.
It was another bad night sleep in the bed with Tal. Trying not to move. Uncomfortable. Just wanting the sun to rise so I could get up. Half the guys went on a taxi boat to another nearby island but again I had to be absent from water activities, I wasn't feeling the beach because I had woken up with a chesty cough, bordering on chest infection so I treated myself to a movie in bed, well in Andy's bed, I thought I'd leave Liv to have our room. I tried to download EatPrayLove over the last 3 hostels, the wifi was so poor that in hours it had bearly done any but it was finally done so it was a big treat. Made me so excited for India and makes me want to go to Bali so much more too. After sobbing over the film for 2 hours and 20 minutes it was time to face the world again and get some lunch. Lovely English omelette on toast. Then Andy and Kate joined me so it felt rude to not eat with them. I ordered in a bowl of fruit, yogurt and muesli - surely that's healthy so doesn't count as calories right? We headed back to the bungalow for a wee nap before the Koh Tao bar crawl that night, turns out you have to buy the t-shirts (i.e the tickets) between 7-8 but we only found this out at 6.30 when we had just got out the shower, so we rushed to get some dinner, apparently two pancakes off a street stall is dinner but Mmm!! So yummy. By the time we gathered troops and got to the bar it was 8.10 and they had already sold out grrr! Ah well, we were glad in the end. We had hilarious fun in an American style bar with a live band, shouting requests out for them (Les Mis, Les Mis, Britney, Bob Dylan - you know the obvious classics). Then went to another bar called Fishbowl, all had a good dance, brilliant music playing, watched another fire show and lived the night. I must admit I had another two pancakes that night, not my finest hour but the pancake man was right outside Fishbowl and I couldn't control myself. Oh. Cringe. Chubster.
The next day I woke up surprisingly fresh, considering I slept on the leather bench that was in our room, I couldn't bear another restless night sleep next to Tal so I opted for the bench. I woke up at around 8am, obviously no one else was awake so went to use the wifi for a bit. After a while one of the girls from our gang, Charlotte, was going to the shop on a water run for the guys in her bungalow so we went to 7/11, stocked up and bundled Andy and Bryony in their sandy bed. After a long struggle we managed to get ourselves down to our fav breakfast restaurant, Bans, for some well needed eggs. Plus Charlotte had made a brekkie date with a lady boy that works there, they had been hanging out in Fishbowl the night before, funny stories discussed over fruit smoothies while the ladyboy hid in embarrassment behind her menu when she took our order. We headed back to the hostel to re-group with everyone because we had to book a hostel for the next island, Koh Phi Phi, there would be 8 of us going again so we figured best to pre book. After alot alot of searching we managed to book double room bungalows, I insisted they would be same sex rooms so I would not be sharing with a boy. Luckily dear Andy said he would share we Tal, phew! We then booked our travel there too, which involves a taxi, a boat, a bus and a boat. 9 hour night boat, oh jeez, asking for vomiting trouble. We then fell on the beach and caught some rays for the early afternoon. I gave up on the foot situation and got in the sea, my plaster fell off instantly but I was too hot to be laying on the sand. It was nice to appreciate just how beautiful the island is. Although, had to be careful of the taxi boats, they're everywhere and their propellors aren't protected by casing so its just an open blade. I gave in to hunger and went to get my beautiful green Thai curry (slightly addicted now), also had a lovely what's app chat with a few of my girls back home. Love you all!! It was nap time so I went back, showered and passed out for an hour. The showers here are bizarre, they're huge wet rooms with no shower curtain or glass wall to separate it from the toilet so everything gets soaked, including the loo roll (annoying). The only fun thing is the bum gun, this is advised to use for number 2's instead of toilet paper but we just use it to clean down the bathroom and for water fights, of course. That night at dinner, I went way over the top on the food front, ended up with the biggest vegetarian pizza but it was one of the nicest I've ever had. I was full half way through but I had to carry on then someone mentioned snicker pancakes and oh god Kate and I had to share one, it wasn't worth the money or the calories - thought they would be a little bit more inventive rather then folding a pancake over a mini snickers bar. We then headed to a ladies night at one of the bars further down the strip because they were doing free (disgusting) drinks for girls and a free fireworks/fire show. A few people went home and it was just Andy, Sean,Tash, Bridge and I. I was about to go home but then.. its our last night on Koh Tao. Basically I'm easily persuaded to stay out. It was so much fun though, fire shows on the beach, messing around, trying to get free t-shirts from the bar (obviously had to be there for it to be funny). Again so much for a quiet night or a 40%'er.
The next day was our last day, we had to check out of our hostel at 10am so we packed up and left our stuff in the hostel luggage room, grabbed breakfast and headed to the beach for a relaxing day. Our last meal together as a group of 12 on Koh Tao another big pizza was in order - two pizzas in two days, hello hips. We experienced yet another power cut on the island, it happened so often and it was so normal for the locals that they weren't fazed at all. We went back and got changed for the boat journey, said our goodbyes to Kelly, Sean, Bridgette and CJ and then Kate, Liv, Bryony, Andy, Char, Tash and I all got on our taxi truck to the port. The boat was so full already but luckily there was beds left for the 8 of us, it was like a refugee camp in there, mattresses the size of yoga mats all lined up. We were happy not to have been on the lower level of the boat though, that was alot worse. Not even beds, just cushions and twice the people, some people were just told to sit on the deck - poor guys. We set off and tried to play some card games but even though it was only 9.30pm they turned out the lights so we had no choice but to sleep. I tried to brush my teeth in the questionable toilet, the boat was rocking so much, I feel against the wall, which was completely drenched, I'm hoping just from the bum gun. Some of us took sleeping pills, put in our iPods and closed our eyes. I only woke a few times to restart my playlist luckily. Finally we had arrived on Surat Thani, 9 hours later, the port of the main land. Little Kate's sea sickness had kicked in so I held up her hair while she said goodbye to last nights dinner, we got in a taxi truck to a random shop and waited there for 90 minutes. The next two hour bus was upon us. I was starting to feel sick so I asked Andy to clear his boat snack shopping so I could use the plastic bag. Luckily I managed to fall back asleep to hang onto it but as soon as the bus stopped I had to make a run for it, taking no prisoners, everything was coming out, vom city. We then had another hour wait for the next taxi to the boat. Kate and I had to ride front because there was no space at the back but this was a blessing because I didn't fancy being piled in with 15 other people plus luggage. Then the next boat 2 hour journey and I managed to sleep most of it. Finally, thank the lord, we had arrived on Phi Phi. Despite the 18 hour journey. I would like to go back to Koh Tao one day and do the activities that I couldn't do (due to glass injury), it was truly beautiful and one of our fav Thai islands so far, we was warned by our Southend friends from KL that we wouldn't want to leave there and it didn't disappoint.

Mum Very pleased to hear you didn't try the fire limbo etc, sounds crazy!! But I agree the film Love Pray Eat was good, glad you are looking forward to India now. 3 months into your trip can I ask, part from eating, drinking, sleeping it would be nice to hear about any local historical sites you visit or any local customs you experience etc? Love Mum xx
