In 1270 Edward 1st spent three months in Aigues Mortes whilst he awaited the arrival of his fleet. It is believed he copied the idea for the donjon tower from here for the 1st castle he built in Wales at Flint starting 1277. Evidence suggested some of the stone masons used at Flint were the same as those at Aigues Mortes. Climbing the walls in Aigues Mortes

Stopped for the night at my Aunty Vicky (mayor of Flint) fav place. The dungeon tower in the picture is the complete version of the one at Flint castle as it was copied from here, more history to follow. Enjoying a beer in the square of this walled town after a very very hot day. The temp gauge in the motorhome was off the scale as it stalls at 50deg c! Too hot to even lay in the sun but now it has cooled to a nice 27deg c. No electric tonight so no cooling fans...
