We arrived in Vang Vieng on 29th April. The journey from Luang Prabang was fine, and we saw some cool villages and mountain scenery on the way. We left Pai for the Laos border at 8pm as planned on a minibus. The journey took us back over the mountain roads towards Chiang Mai and was supposed to take 6 hours. After an hour and a half delay, and some failed attempts at proper sleep, we arrived at our overnight "accomodation" around 3:30am. We stayed in Pai in Northern Thailand for six days.We stayed in a hut right by the river, it was pretty basic, just a bed on the floor, mossie net and fan. We did have a bathroom at the back of the hut, which was basically outside, and a favourite place for disgusting creatures to hang out as it was shady, cool and wet. We saw several frogs, lizards and the biggest spider ever in there. We spent quite a lot of time chilling out and reading on our little veranda. ...

We woke up early in the morning on Thursday 16th April, having had about 4 hours sleep after staying up to watch the Champions League games. We quickly packed our stuff for the trek into the mid-size back packs the hostel had provided, and left the rest of our luggage with them. We arrived in Chaing Mai on Saurday 11th April, after a five hour bus journey from Sukhothai. We had massive problems finding the hostel we had booked, as there we no directions on the website, its just said to get a taxi.
