How is Brisbane. Horrible place eh. Stinky hot and no beach (apart from that plastic one on the edge of the very dirty river - which you must never swim in).

So I'm now a Cannuck, Aussie, Kiwi and Pomme. But I can't be blammed for the Kiwi-Pomme part. That's was not my doing.  

Sorry to hear about the guy at the hostel. You mustn't feel guilty. I remember reading that in the aussie papers online. Alexandria is a very dangerous beach. I used to be a surf lifeguard and I wouldn't swim there. When a rip is involved and people don't know what to do, it's a very dangerous situation. I'm going to put my lifesaver hat on for a minute 'cause I want to make sure you understand rips. They look like the calmest/safest part of the surf - no white water. Surfers use them to get out to the back of the surf, which is fine cause they are on top of the water and less likely to get pulled under by an undertow.

If you find yourself in a rip, relax, it will most likely end at the back of the surf. DO NOT SWIM STRAIGHT BACK INTO THE BEACH. At least not perpendicular. You have two choices: i)swim parrallel to the beach until you are out of the rip, then swim back into the beach. This is your best option if you are not a strong swimmer, or you are tired. ii) Swim on a 45% angle out of the rip and back to the beach. This is only if you are a very strong swimmer AND are not tired.

Remember that you can always raise one hand (two means a shark) if the beach has a lifeguard in view.  But even if a lifeguard is on the beach, don't swim alone. If you must go swimming and no one is with you, approach the guard and let them know you are going swimming and you would like them to keep an eye on you and that you will raise your hand if you get in trouble.

Well, im all settled into uni. Im actually really enjoying it which is good! Very full on though, kinda regretting killing off all those brain cells while I was away...ah well, it was worth it!! Oohhh, exciting news...Im gonna be an Aunty, my sis is pregnant!!! Yay!!

If you would like to see the beach i go to everyday and watch some surfers too, go to www.coastalwatch.com, then under Select Cams, select QLD cams and then Noosa. And voila! that's where i am. The cam will just go back and forth along the beach.
