TIME FOR DA LARES TREK.
I was so ready for this, had my leggings on, Chanco was strapped to my headband, was suncreamed up. First we had a 3 hour bus ride along really rickety mountain roads to get to Lares town, where the trek starts, you have a day sack which you carry, and you can store all the stuff you don't need during the day in your duffle bag, which the mules carry. We had our main guide Joel, and our assistant guide Omar, 2 chefs and 4 general camp helpy people who herded the mules and put up tents etc, but they could all do the whole thing in a day if they wanted to because they're basically mountain goats.
The first day was honestly alright, it was quite warm, but not too steep and we only walked for 5 hours. Our campsite was beautiful, on the side of a mountain in a place called Cuncani, with clouds practically level with us and working toilets!!! We played s***head until about 9 and then headed to bed because we had a 5am start
