So, what have the adventurous pair been up to this week?
We have our own car now, it has become kind of a giant handbag containing all our things, we no longer have to live out of a bag, we have a car to store towels, food, shoes, coats etc, all the bulky useless stuff we don't really need much! The car is amazing! we can now go where we want, stay where we want, have the freedom to change our minds, (which we have done alot!) we can stay longer or move on if it's boring. Totally loving it!
So where have we taken our car? Well we have traveled the Great Ocean Road all the way there and back again! WOW!!! there are some amazing sights to be seen. We found Koala's living wild in Kennet river, high in trees but can still find them. we went to London bridge to watch the penguins come at night. we sat there for nearly an hour, watched the sunset, got very cold, they still hadn't appeared so we sat in the car for a bit to thaw out, then went back for one last look. there they were! a few tiny black shaddowy dots on the beach waddling around! We decided they were too hard to see after all that so we went back!
the coastline and scenery is so beautifull all the way there (and back). well worth the effort. Can see why you loved it Jonathan!
We stopped in at Torquay on the way back towards Geelong, (Just outside Melbourne ) to go the surf museum. If you like waves, this place is fantastic! total history of surfing, posters of the masters, long boards ( really long boards!) surf movies playing on 4 tv's, surfboard art. I had a wicked time! Recomended to everyone. Dad, you would love it, James, i really hope you and clare have already been!
We have stayed in some random places the past week some really nice, some not so nice! We decided we wanted a home for a few nites instead of just one night in each place so we spent the last 2 days pegging it up from Melbourne towards Sydney. lots of long straight boring roads with not alot to report.
We have had fun searching for a bed each nite, Our bible, the lonely planet book i found at my feet the first day in Melbourne, seems to be a little out of date! We stopped in a very cute little place, Golangong? Maybe? (have to check!) the lovely Guest house we planned to stay at was...well...a little run down to say the least...in fact... it was closed and bordering on derelict! We contemplated another drive then caved at the idea of sitting in the car for 2 more hours of 'the space in between villages'. So we found the cheapest motel we could and sufered with comfy beds a tv and a bathroom all to ourselves! prob the comfyest nite yet even if the most expensive!
Another nite saw us in rooms above a pub with just 2 other people, free internet and free washing! unfortunately we were both so shattered we did th ewashing, opened a box of wine and consequently, the internet was hardly used and we settled for a bit of vegging in front of the tv. Have to say, I got slightly plastered with the housemate and achieved very little except for a hangover in the morning! ( Woke up 5am feeling a little rough after passing out on the sofa!) Hey, was a good nite tho! the care taker, John, was a real character, lots to say, full of a world of information but not very good at holding what you might call a conversation! Seem to spend alot of time listening, but lovely and friendly all the same.
Haven't got much more to report really, seen a few Kangaroos, tame ones tho, did see few wild ones, some slightly flatter and deader than would have liked! Seen lots of parrots, they are as common as blackbirds! strange to see but very prety.
Spent today walking around botanical gardens in Wolongong (have to check that one too!) We were looking for a budhist temple but this was the best we could find with no real directions! The trees were big and impressive, they had a masive cactus garden which i have to say was bery impressive. have you ever seen a 10ft cactus? kinda puts you back in your place, was a bit prehistoric but very cool. We did however nearly walk into th bigest spiders web we have seen yet. This beastie was huge! very scary with bright yellow knees. Orb weaver maybe? James, you would know! Oh My God, gave me the heebie geebies for about an hour!
think thats about it for cool and intresting stuff at the mo. Been meeting lots of people, some fun, some a little strange. all very friendly tho and keep giving us good hints and tips where is good to go, so we go there!
Hoping to stay around Sydney for a few days, intention was to chill on the beach but the weather might change that plan! lots to see and do, even if it is wet! Talk to you all soon.
Lots of love from both of us. xxx
