We're going for a walk - We may be sometime..
Resume of next 12 days
Taxi at 0315 hrs. 15 hours flight to Kilimanjaro via Amsterdam to collect Kathleen. Walk uphill to 19,340ft. Play cricket (well smack a ball around with a bat) . Walk back down. Be chased by Lions across the Serengeti and then home in time for tea - all on behalf of H4H.
End of Resume.
It was just to let you all know, that we are all ready to go. In fact the Australian team are already presently in the air heading for the African continent..
The British teams taxi pick up is at 0315 hrs tomorrow morning., with the Dutch team being picked up on the way, in a classy move that has us all arriving at 1930 hrs at Kilimanjaro airport. Its been 5 months since we started the planning and I can confidently say, that we could not have done any more to be prepared for our walk. We are physically prepared, mentally prepared and have enough kit with us to climb Everest. So in simple terms, we are focused and ready and now is the time to deliver.
On the Charity side for Help for Heroes, we have so far raised £1,460 which we are fantastically pleased with having thought we could get a few hundred from helpful friends and family.Thank you all for being part of this. This just gives us that extra focus to make the most of every minute we will have on the mountain.
The one issue which has just cropped up is the weather forecast.Yes we have a six day forecast for the top, middle and bottom (such a great word) of Kilimanjaro.
Well, the night we leave our last camp to have a go at the summit the forecast is for snow at 4,524 meters and above (that's half way up to the very top). It should be an 8-9 hour trek arriving at sunrise……with a forecast on arrival for Snow and minus 15 centigrade (including wind chill) !!!! Not sure what the view will be like. And then another 5 hours back to our next camp..guess what.. forecast Snow
Enough of snow - 'we laugh at the forecast' No negative waves man !! (Kellys Heroes 1970).
For all those Cricket fans, you'll be pleased to know we will be taking a bat (Clapshaw & Cleave circa 1924) with us, and a cricket ball (Gun and Moore swing ball circa 2009) - for a little test match on the slopes of Kilimanjaro. So will it swing more than at sea level!!. Will we lose it over the edge.. Will the Ozzies beat the Poms.
Anyway, we really appreciate all your support, and on the basis that the mobile connection works, and the sonar panel I will have strapped to by pack works better in Tanzania than Wales, we will endevour to update the blog with i-phone photos and daily magic moments onto the web site
www.aimhighchallenge.com (19,344 feet to be precise)
Anyone wanting to be added to the auto blog email please let Sophie know on [email protected] .
Or if you want to be the one to push us over the £1500 mark for H4H then this can be done at www.justgiving.com/aimhighchallenge
So we are off to turn some 'dreamers of the night' into 'dreamers of the day' (c. Lawrence of Arabia)
Thanks for all your support - we will do our very best
Upward until there is only downward
Fethy, Joe, Brownie, Kathleen and all Australians !!
