We landed in Singapore at 2pm on Monday 16th September. Unfortunately when we collected our luggage, we saw Harry's bag had been broken on the flight and he'd lost some of his clothes. This took over two hours to sort out and by the time we reached the hostel we were both shattered and it was 5pm, so we decided to have a nap. After waking up a lot more refreshed we got dressed up and headed to raffles hotel for an original Singapore sling! It was a really cute, old style hotel and they provided peanuts on each table. We ate loads of peanuts while sipping on our slings, although it was strange how everyone threw the shells on the floor! We were ready for dinner after drinks so went to the shopping centre opposite to look around and have dinner. We had quite a snacky dinner then went for a walk around the city, it looked really nice all lit up. The F1 track was being marked out so we walked along the actual racetrack and took photos!! It was quite late after and we were both tired so got the SMRT back to the hostel where we got ready and went to bed in our individual pods built into the wall!
The beds were so comfortable we both slept in quite late, luckily we still woke up in time to have the free breakfast and check out. First of all we walked to the little India area of Singapore to have a look around the streets. On the way we stopped for lunch at a food centre to try some of Singapore's famous hawker food. The tables and chairs were plasticy, but the food tasted amazing!! After seeing little India, we got the SMRT to the Marina Bay area, where we spent most of the afternoon shopping and wondering around the huge hotel (which had a boat on top)! Later on we got the SMRT to Bugis St to buy a keyring each and look at some cheaper shops! The actual street was like the markets in Bangkok, only a lot smaller. There was also a shopping mall attached to the station which had some well-known shops in. Harry tried on a few tops and bought a belt. It was then time to walk back to the hostel, which was only about a 20 minute walk away. After our bags were packed we walked back to lavender station and got on a very full train to the airport. Once at the airport we were able to check in straight away and leave our main hold bags. We went through immigration, had dinner and shopped before getting on the 12 hour flight to Helsinki.
It was an overnight journey so at least we could sleep. Luckily we didn't have long in Helsinki so just looked in a few shops and got on the next plane, both excited to get home! The view of Helsinki from the plane looked similar to ski resorts so maybe it'll be in the next travel plan! We eventually landed in London on time, grabbed our bags off the conveyer belt and went through to see our families!
Well, that's the end of the travelling blog! We've had an incredible time, everything from riding elephants to motorbikes to driving a camper van on long winding roads and a four by four on the worlds largest sand island, to seeing world famous sights, hundreds of waterfalls, sunsets, sunrises, temples, pagodas, fish, every type of weather from snow to boiling hot sun to sleeping under the stars, on boats, in a car, numerous hostels as well as a few posh hotels... it's all been amazing!! We've met so many people and can't believe how quickly the last five months have gone. One last message, which I liked from the wall of one of our last hostels:
Do what makes you happy,
Be with who makes you smile,
Laugh as much as you breathe,
Love as long as you live xxxx
