February 16, 2014 - Chobe, Botswana
Hmmm, our last day here. Somehow when the last day rolls around, I always become a little sad. To be perfectly correct, we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, but then again, we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at every destination we have had the pleasure of visiting here in Africa.
On our last drive this morning, we found that cat!!! The young male lion had been spotted by another vehicle but had disappeared. We headed to the area and searched. All we got was a quick glimpse of him deserting that spot and heading far down the hill. We drove around the big hill to a spot where we guessed he might be. It was about 10 am and the cool morning had begun to heat up quickly. We scanned the landscape and, peeked into bushes, particularly looking into cool shady spots. After a long hour, we found that guy!! And what a beauty! He was tucked under a den of vines and bush, but he came out and almost posed for our photos before becoming tired of our watching and pointing and walked away into the bush.
Yes, we saw more elephants, hippos, giraffes, buffalos and Impalas - but after our full day yesterday, we were crying, "no more elephants; no more hippos!" I guess enough is enough. Our safari is over. We are off to the big city life again. Travel will take up all the day, but we will arrive in Cape Town tomorrow night.
Farewell Chobe; farewell elephants, farewell hippos and farewell, Mr. Lion, King of the Jungle.
