Good evening,
Today (Sunday) is day 9 of my adventure and marks the first day that it has taken me until 11:36pm to write my blog. Usually I write it through the day but today has just been too jam packed!
As I lie in bed, the heavens have opened and the rainforest is living up to it's name! Rain is crashing onto the tin roof of the building I am in and thunder cracks in the distance! This is one almighty storm and is a little strange to someone who lives in a desert!
Today was a day full of adventure but began, as always, with reading Tara's blog. It was great to read that she is also living experiences, whilst travelling around Thailand, that she would like to share with me. Today more than ever I have spoken about her as the group I am in got to know each other better throughout the day! It's tough being away from someone you have spent so much time with recently and although our time away is incredible and we are both having an amazing time, I still think about her all the time! To feel like this is a positive though and it confirms to me everyday how lucky I am!
Anyway... Before you all get the sick buckets out, I'll stop. I think it's important though to write honestly and open in my blog as when I look back in years to come I will be able to read exactly how I felt. I don't mind sharing it with you all either but you'll just have to put up with bits like that :)
This morning myself and the group went on a jungle trek! The 8 of us (4 Dutch, 1 American, 1 Iranian, 1 Italian and Me) enjoyed waking up the boardwalk through the jungle spotting a few creepy insects along the way. By the time we reached the view point at the top all of us were absolutely dripping wet through! It will be no suppose to some of you that I was sweating by far the most and even transferred my phone out of my pocket into Jaap's bag as I feared water (sweat) damage! It was ridiculous and I am certain that I shouldn't sweat that much but there wasn't much I could do about it!
On our way down from the view point it was time to go on our Canopy Walk. This meant walking across a series of rope bridges that seemed like 100's of meters above the jungle floor! It was really good fun and again something new to tick off the list!
Once we got to the bottom and back to the river I was well and truly ready for some lunch. This was at the same floating restaurant and wasn't very much! I ate it all up and got a lift back to the resort, freshened up before having a rest and reading the news.
At 3pm we were picked up again for our afternoon activities. This included a visit to a nearby little village where apparently the people still live off the land. However the Pringle packets, bean tins and other kinds of packaging suggested otherwise! Our guide gave us a great talk all about their way of life and then a local tribe man showed us how to use a blow shooter for hunting! I had a go and missed.
Good morning (Monday),
Having fallen asleep writing my blog last night I will carry on from where I left off as I sail back down the river and on to my next destination.
After the village visit yesterday afternoon it was time for our Rapid Shooting! This involved taking the same long boat up the river against rapids and then turning around and 'shooing' down them. We were told we would get wet and get wet we did! I was drowned head to toe and so was the boat! So much so we had to stop at the side and chuck water out!! It was good fun splashing the other boats and zooming around just above the water.
After drying off having a mouthful of Spaghetti at our resort for our 'evening meal' we decided to head down to the river and try out a local floating restaurant. I had flat noodles and chicken which were lovely but again only a mouthful! I suppose you can't expect much for £1:92 with a coke!
It was then time to say our goodbyes to the group and get some sleep.
Today, Monday, I am heading north to the Cameron Highlands. I opted to take the boat for the first leg of the journey before a 3 hour bus ride. It's a day of rest and travel today.
The river is noticeably higher today with less rapids as their is more water after the rain last night. I'm sat next to an Italian bloke today who I'm not even going to joke with about having a cuddle! He doesn't seem the friendly type shall we say!
As I try and not think about the fact I need a wee and I'm stuck on a boat for the next few hours, I'm going to enjoy the view. Bye for now :)
Good evening!
So today was a traveling day and now I am just chilling. After the boat ride back to Kuala Trembling we waited for what seemed like forever before getting in little vans for the 3 hour journey to the Cameron Highlands. I played the travel sickness card again so enjoyed a good view of the Malaysian countryside as we climbed up into the mountains. The journey was a long one, not helped by the slowest driver in the world!
When we arrived I checked into a lovely little guesthouse I found online and have my own double room with ensuite tonight! I decided I had better have a look around the highlands so went for a walk after dumping my stuff and a quick FaceTime with Grandma! The town was pretty touristy and I tried my best to enjoy it but in all honesty I just couldn't! The place is beautiful but again is dirty and not looked after by the local people! It infuriates me that they live somewhere so nice yet have an arrogance that for some reason allows them to dump rubbish everywhere and not clean anything! This place could be like the highlands in Scotland if it wanted to and even has a golf course to help, but it will never be like Scotland if they don't look after and care for what they have.
However, I enjoyed some great Indian food with two Swiss girls that were on the bus from the jungle, before heading back to my guesthouse. Tonight I am going to chill, upload some photos and catch up with people on FaceTime. Tara has just boarded a flight to Bangkok so hopefully we will get chance to have a chat later!
Tomorrow I am up at 7:30am for a bus down to Penang on the coast. I'm looking forward to being in a town/city again and hopefully I will be able to enjoy a nice hotel tomorrow as I've treated myself!
That's all for now,
Night X

FG Tell you what - I'll happily swap the rain in Malysia for the rain here! All sounds great (apart from small food portions obviously!)
