Perth is a west Australian coastal city, which even though has a centre where financial institutions are found, the main business of the surrounding city is mining and many people I met were somehow linked to the mining industry.
Paulette picked me up from the airport at 9:30pm. Perth was one of the few places where I stayed with friends locally, which made such a difference to my travel experience. The timing worked out well as Paulette's time off at work coincided with my time there. It was great to see Paulette again and she was an amazing host taking me to the best spots and met some of her mates.
Perth has a lovely skyline and views from Kings park are breathtaking, especially with the amazing sunset I witnessed when we had a picnic there with friends. It was a great place where I learned to surf dumpwaves and got an introduction to kite surfing. Our shopping at Harbour world was delightful. I even got a taste of what an Australian book club is like;)
Paulette surprised me with an Aussie/England (Ashes test) cricket game at the WACA, which I absolutely loved.
I really enjoyed cycling with Paulette and her mate (Jack?) along the esplanade with impressive views of the coastline on our 38km cycle.
My favourite town was "Freeyo" (Freemantle) where we took a rather interesting tour of the Prison that was active until 1992 and closed down due to hygiene reasons. The highlight was of course the Little creatures brewery where we had Kangaroo and locally brewed ales.
It was so lovely being here with Paulette, it was really sad to say good bye!!
The airport was less impressive however and was grateful for the catch up call with Vicky whom I wasnt able to see due to logistical reasons, eventhough she was only 2 hrs away :(
Finally boarded and ready for seeing fam and friends in South Africa!
