We went to the Secret Garden hostel which is number 1 rated in South America by Hosteworld. The view we had from the terrace was unexpected and totally breathtaking. The lights were exposing the surroundding hills and the Basilica was shining brightly to the right side. We got a taxi to Mosiac Restaurant which had similarly spectacular views but also impressively one of the best live saxophone players i've heard. We tried to go to La Ronda thereafter, but was closed. Went to Gringolandia (Plaza Foch) to find most places were closed there too. It was our last night and wanted to go our with a bang which wasn't quite happening.
Rona had no sleep but woke us at 5am as we requested to say bye. Was crazy to think after 3 months our travelling together is over. Thankfully Leanne will still be around for another week, diminishing the blow.
We explored San Blas area close to Secret Garden. Did not venture too far or do a trip as I was going to meet up with an ex colleague of mine (Jenny) originally from Ecuador and again now living in Quito. However her son got ill and the plans to go over there got cancelled. Had dinner at secret garden with the amazing view and had an early night as was still not feeling all that.
Had a lie in. Leanne and I got a taxi tour to Mitad de Mundo (the middle of the world). Went to a Geobotanical area with a great view then onto Inti-Nan Museum which is home to the 0.00 GPS latitude zero line. They did all kinds of experiments to show how the equator effects the ull of gravity. We passed the Monument.
As we still had some time we visited "The Basilica of the National Vow" (Basílica del Voto Nacional) which is a Roman Catholic church located in the historic centre of Quito. It is the largest neo-Gothic basilica in the Americas. We climbed to a view point in one of their towers, was impressive to see the city from this vantage point. La Ronda Calle was our destination for dinner. It's a viby street filled with bars and restaurants most with live music. We had flaming shrimps well was shrimps in white wine sauce that came set on fire, was a bit crazy never had that before. Such a cool street to walk around and soak up the atmosphere. We had their local drinks Cozans and Vino Helandia from a belcony view with live spanish being sung. The place was seemingly full of locals as everyone sang along.
Our last day Quito, had a full $4 haircut and chilled at the hostel until it was time to go. We got to Quitumbe bus terminal just in time for the 3pm bus which got us there by 6:30.
