Sarah's Travels
Hi Again!
Its only been 10 days since i last updated my journal but it feels like it was months ago with everything that has happened in between!
Hanoi was amazing I really felt at home in the city. While there I went to see Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum not sure what to say about it apart from he looked well for someone who has been dead a while! As well as the two guys I met up with an Israeli girl called Hadar and we all took the boat trip out to Halong Bay. We spent a night on the boat part of the floating village and saw daybreak over the bay which was a very peaceful experience. A Dutch couple on the boat didn't have such a great time; they had a rat eat through one of their bags!
Next day I arrived in Hue which compared to Hanoi is much more relaxed. I took in a boat trip down the lake to several tombs but the views of the surrounding countryside were by far the best part of the day. It was also the first time i had seen sunshine since I arrive and like a true Brit i managed to get a sun burnt!! Only spent two days in Hue and then took bus to Hoi An. I had heard good things about Hoi An from other travelers and it definitely didn't disappoint. It was like Hanoi but on a much smaller and calmer scale. I managed to find the only guesthouse that had a swimming pool and just spent a few days chilling out and wondering around the old town. Hoi An is also known for its cloth industry. Every other shop is a tailor trying to get you to have clothes made. Those that know me will know my weakness for shopping so of course I gave in and had 'several' things made. A pair of linen trousers, three skirts and a top. I didn't have too much room in my bag before but it looks like I'm going to be sending some things home a bit sooner than expected!! I also met up with another Israeli girl called Gabi and we decided to travel down to Saigon together to share on room costs etc. hotel prices are per room and not per person so splitting the bill means more money for shopping!
We then took the night bus (10 hrs) further down the coast to Nha Trang which is a coastal town. With only one day there we decided to take a boat trip around the surrounding islands which turned out to be very touristy but also a lot of fun. At one point it became a mini party boat with a floating bar!
This morning we took the bus to Dalat which is inland from the coast between Nha Trang and Saigon and now we are trying to decide what to do with our time here before we move on to Saigon.
Hope to be able to upload some of my photos at the weekend so you can see some of things I have been up to!
Missing everyone
