Hervey Bay / Whale Watching
OK, so we weren't going to do another blog for a while but Hervey bay was so amazing we just had to write about it. We had a site for 4 nights right up on the beach in the centre of town and spent the first couple of days on the beach and wondering around. I stupidly over did it on a run at 12 o'clock midday just because I wanted to beat Mishee's time the previous night of 47 minutes along the esplanade and to the end of the pier, I did manage it with a time of 40 minutes but my legs wouldn't work that evening!!!
We also got a chance to go to the driving range to smack a few balls and played mini golf, we had a 18 hole mini golf competition, we played for 5 washing up's!! I lost and went into the worst mood as I actually play the sport and did a happy gilmore, threw my ball across the into the fence and didn't talk for about 30 minutes!!!! I hate washing up! But what a baby I am!! Oh and dad there is a special video for you on here!
29/7/2009 (Mishee's B'day)
The next morning we got up at 7 grabbed a quick coffee and got picked up for our whale watching tour that was recommended by our Irish neighbors (also in a van). We set off and passed Fraser island and after about an hour caught our first sight of a humpback whale, we were a bit gutted as we weren't that close and the boat doesn't go right up to the whales, its up to the whales if they want to play!
Ten minutes later we landed in whales country and they were everywhere coming up so close to the boat and ranging from about 6 metres long to about 12 metres long, we were all buzzing and running around the boat to get the best view! Hump backs go up to about 16 meters long and blue whales up to 36 metres long crazy!
It was an unreal experience we watch them dive jump and we just wanted to jump in swim with them, we couldn't believe how close they came and didn't feel threatened at all .But unfortunately this is why they are so easy for whaling to happen, but its becoming less and less the girl on the boat told us. Also after about an hour loads of dolphins came to join the party so we were surrounded and it was the quickest 2 hours ever! Never thought we would see whales and Mishee had a great time on her birthday watching them! Check out the awesome video's that I took!
